ABOUT

This is not your typical musician’s profile. I am a full-time psychotherapist in private practice and also a songwriter. A few years ago I came to two significant realizations. First, I realized that the honest and courageous work I see every day in my office is far more compelling than anything else I might write about. Second, as I witnessed clients moving through fear and taking risks, I knew I owed it to myself to begin taking more risks with my own music. In response, I decided to create a “concept album” about universal issues explored in therapy, written from the perspective of the client. The lyrics are fictional and do not represent the lives of past or present clients of mine.

An early reviewer of my debut album “Second Skin” described it as “a hauntingly beautiful collection of cinematic, intelligent and moving indie folk rock songs.”

The making of the album became the laboratory where I not only challenged myself musically but personally as well. While it’s unusual and perhaps even controversial for a therapist to share anything personal in a public forum, I felt like what I discovered might be helpful to others. If you're interested in learning more about the power of vulnerability and creativity to heal, I've documented my experience in an essay that you will find on this website and in The Journal of Expressive Writing.
